The Boston Globe is running a story about the DuBois Society, an honors society named after W. E. B. DuBois, the first African-American to earn a PhD from Harvard. The purpose of the group is to counter negative peer pressure from fellow black students that doing homework and being smart is ‘looking white’.
The group, which meets weekly at Harvard University and the Baker House, discusses education, history, politics, and the arts, all from a black perspective.
