The next wave in technology is the virtual school. Twelve states have already established online programs in their high schools, while thirty-two states have e-learning initiatives under way. E-learning in high schools and colleges is one thing, but how about having it in elementary schools? Advocates of e-learning want this learning by computers to be across Kindergarten to grade 12. The article E-Defining Education states that this new way of delivering education has the support of numerous state and local policymakers, education researchers, and business leaders. While there are many for the idea of e-learning, some are still very skeptical. They worry about what is lost when students do not meet face to face with their classmates and teachers.
