According to an article in the Detroit Free Press, a presidential commission report found that the Special Education system is too mired in bureaucracy and not focused on achieving academic success. This could cause sweeping changes on the federal law for special education.
The report make reference to the ‘No Child Left Behind Act’ as a reference in reforming Special Education. According to the report, for many families, teachers, principals, and school districts, special education presents a daunting task—a morass of rules, regulations, and litigation that limits access and hinders learning.
One of the report’s recommendations is that parents of children with disabilities use vouchers to send their children to private schools, which is stirring some controversy.
